In Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, close to 90 percent of the population is Buddhist, while only about 5 percent is Evangelical Christian. After nearly 50 years under a harsh military dictatorship known for persecution, oppression, censorship and human rights violations, the people are finally seeing an opening for religious freedom. Even so, Christians still face persecution as they are viewed as having turned their backs on their families, ancestors and Buddhist heritage. They need the support of God’s Word and fellowship with other believers.
