From Student to Believer to Teacher

Jane, a native Filipina, remembers studying God’s Word with a Philippine Values Education Program (PVEP) teacher when she was in grade 4. At that time, she was struggling with pride, disobedience and foul language.

“Everything in my life began to change when I began the Values Education program at my school,” Jane says. “I learned that God loves, guides and accepts me in spite of my failures. I still remember the Bible verses that helped me realize that God can transform us if we’re willing.”

PVEP is a unique outreach that trains and equips volunteer teachers to teach about Christ, the Bible and Christian values in public and private schools. This ministry began in one school in 2007. Today, the outreach is in over half of the nation's 82 provinces, and well over half a million children have come to faith in Jesus since it began.

After Jane graduated from high school, Pastor Genisa — one of our ministry parners for PVEP — encouraged Jane to become a PVEP teacher. Jane hesitated at first, but then she said yes.

“Teaching children about God helps protect them from the unhealthy and destructive patterns of the world,” Jane says. “Teaching them has opened my heart. When I see their excitement to learn about God, I am excited, too.”

One of Jane’s challenges is teaching children who know her personally. Now, she is finding that those relationships are growing even stronger. The children she teaches are helping her to be even more committed to God’s call on her life.

“My PVEP training has equipped me for the classroom and for eternal impact,” Jane says. “I thank God for this calling, and I know He still has a lot more to do in my country.”
